Libertarian Party of Texas Joins Coalition to End the Death Penalty
HOUSTON, TX, February 15, 2023 – On Tuesday Whitney Bilyeu, Chair of the Libertarian Party of Texas (LPTexas), signed the Statement of Support and Organizational Affiliation to join the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (TCADP).
LPTexas opposes the death penalty as a form of punishment by the state, as well as any other unnecessary use of force by state agents in response to criminal action.
LPTexas’s 2023 legislative agenda includes supporting bills that seek to eliminate the death penalty from the Texas Penal Code, such as HB142 and SB516.
“I hope this long overdue affiliation between TCADP and LPTexas will help shed more light on the severely problematic nature and circumstances surrounding the death penalty in Texas. The high cost, the failure to deter crime, as well as the unfair and arbitrary imposition of the death sentence, are just a few reasons we stand with the coalition against this practice,” says Bilyeu.
LPTexas will hold multiple events in Austin later this month:
- Meet & Greet Social on February 24th at 12833 Ranch Road 620N starting at 7pm
- State Libertarian Executive Committee Meeting on February 25th at 12833 Ranch Road 620N starting at 9 AM
- Legislative Action Day at the Capitol on February 27th starting at 10 AM
The Libertarian Party of Texas is the third-largest ballot-qualified political party in Texas. Its members seek a world of liberty, in which all individuals are sovereign over their own lives and no individuals are forced to sacrifice their values for the benefit of others.
